"Londoners are being enticed to rent out their homes for the London 2012 Olympic Games for lucrative rents with letting agents claiming an average one bedroom property would generate more than £2,000 a week." says the Telegraph
...
" The agents say two bedroom properties within half an hour of London Olympic venues could bring in over £3,000 a week and five bedroom houses nearly £10,000 a week at the time of the Olympic Games in July and August 2012. The figures are based on a spike in demand similar to the experience of the rental holiday market during this summer's World Cup finals in South Africa."

Welcome to Olympic Britain 2012.

Official Olympic information can be found on the Official Olympic website at www.london2012.com. This website (not connected with LOCOG) is the Unofficial Guide, providing information about the specific venues, links to accommodation in 2012, jobs in 2012 and places to visit in 2012..

It also provides a London 2012 Discussion Forum for anyone with an interest in the Games - from the Olympic Venues to up and coming British athletes that may or may not be competing at the Olympics in 2012.

*new* Our Calendar is open for business. Add your 2012 Events to the 2012 Calendar

If you have anything that you wish to see added to this website, then do let us know - either on the 2012 Discussion Forum or via our Contact Form.

Official or not?

OlympicBritan2012.com is an unofficial London 2012 Olympics Website. We do not claim to be otherwise. We just hope that it is a useful source of information for visitors to the UK in 2012 - both for the London 2012 Olympics and also to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

As has been seen with Beijing, however, where there is money there is fraud - from fake and non-existent tickets to official-looking websites that can skim your credit card before you can say 'overspend', to fake 'official' merchandise.

Through this website, we will tell you where you can Officially buy tickets & merchandise and which websites are Officially Approved by London 2012. All official links can be verified by going to the Official London 2012 Website as well.

Through this website, we will also tell you of any websites that purport to be Official but, in fact have nothing to do with London 2012 and we recommend that you avoid them. This list can be found on our Forum here. Do let us know should you find any others.

As Sergeant Esterhaus would have said: "Let's Be Careful Out There".

Snippets

Think of a London 2012 Olympic location - London? Obviously. Dorney? Yup. Weymouth, Broxbourne, Calais, Portland Harbour.

Hang on, Calais? Apparently so. Dominique Dupilet, the chairman of the Pas de Calais regional council, has spotted a unique opportunity. With Calais to London easier than certain UK locations thanks to the tunnel, he is hoping to attrach Francophilic teams and tourists.

Hoisting the Union Jack above his council offices “within a minute of the announcement” in 2005, he unveiled a plan for all things Anglais to generate revenue and publicity from the games by trying to attract athletes, fans and journalists. “We decided to make the Pas de Calais the most active English region in terms of the Olympics,” he told The Times.

He has a point, though. What do you think?
