Hi everyone,

Andy has kindly given me permission to post on behalf of The National Lottery Good Causes, to tell you about the fantastic success of two Yorkshire-based synchronised divers, backed by Lottery funding.

Identical twins Helen and Carol Galashan are students at Leeds Metropolitan University, and are Britain's leading synchronised diving hopefuls for the 2012 Olympics. The twins' training programme and the Aquatics Centre at the John Charles Centre for Sport in Leeds, where the girls train, are both backed by the Lottery. This means the girls have the best possible training facilities, and the best chance to realise their Olympic dream!

To celebrate the role that Lottery funding has played in their success, the twins have taken part in a special performance at the Centre, diving into a pool filled with giant Lottery balls. Check out www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk/rollingout/gallery to see them in action!

A total of 436 Olympic and Paralympic medals have been won by athletes funded by the Lottery, with Beijing 2008 being Team GB's best medal haul for 100 years.

If you have any questions or comments about Lottery Good Causes, feel free to ask me!

Hi Becky,

Not a problem. That's what this website is about - promoting London 2012 as well as promoting Team GB. If us Brits don't bang the drum for Britain, no-one else is going to!

The twins have been added to the hopefuls list and for now are on the front page - until usurped by the next hopefuls.

Does anyone know of other identical twins / triplets that have competed in the Olympics? I'm sure there must be some as it seems reasonable that they would take up the same sports / hobbies.

Similarly, if anyone knows of other Team GB hopefuls, then let us know

Don't forget that the National Lottery is a big source of funds for the games, so do support it. Did you know that you can buy tickets automatically online?

Bia and Branca Feres are synchronized swimmers that represented Brazil in the 2008 Olympics.

Bia and Branca Feres

Bearing in mind that they are female, Brazilian and twins, they have carved out quite a glamour niche! This is one of the more toned down images.

I've also found this list of Twins with Olympic connections at twinstuff.com
