British Virgin Islands check out Hertfordshire's Olympic training venues

A FORMER Olympic athlete came to Times Territory to check out two sporting venues hoping to provide training facilities for elite athletes ahead of the London 2012 Games.
Dean Greenaway, secretary-general of the British Virgin Islands Olympic organising committee, visited Hertfordshire Sports Village and Gosling Sports Park on Wednesday.
Mr Greenaway, who competed in the 400m at the 1984 Los Angeles Games, toured the facilities to see what they could offer his country's Olympic team, which will be using Hertfordshire as its base in the run up to 2012.
He also spoke exclusively to the WHT. Read his interview in next week's paper, out on Wednesday.
Welwyn & Hatfield Times
The London 2012 Summer Olympic canoe and kayak slalom are due to be held in
Hertfordshire. The current venue is at Broxbourne.
However, there is a question mark about the venue due to contamination issues
and the cleanup cost. The
ODA (Olympic Development Agency) is currently considering an alternative venue
approximately
6 miles
South of
Broxbourne. This would place it somewhere around Cheshunt -
say Cheshunt Lake.
