Dorney 2012 - home to Dorney Rowing Lake

dorney rowing lake

Dorney Rowing Lake will be hosting the rowing and canoeing events for the London 2012 Summer Olympics. It will be the largest venue outside London and is expected to attract 250,000 visitors - rowers, officials, press and spectators.

History

Dorney is a small village, with a mention in the Domesday Book. Eton is a couple of miles away, as is Windsor, Maidenhead and Slough. Although surrounded by Berkshire, it is in fact, part of Buckinghamshire, on a small strip of land.

The Rowing Lake

The Lake is owned by Eton College and was specifically built for its purpose. Apart from specific events, the lake is open to the public and there are some pretty walks around the lake as well as a rowing museum in the main building. Click here for the main Dorney Lake website

The Lake is a 2,200m, eight lane course with a separate return lane recently constructed to international standards by Eton College.
