Think of a London 2012 Olympic location - London? Obviously. Dorney? Yup. Weymouth, Broxbourne, Calais, Portland Harbour.
Hang on, Calais? Apparently so. Dominique Dupilet, the chairman of the Pas de Calais regional council, has spotted a unique opportunity. With Calais to London easier than certain UK locations thanks to the tunnel, he is hoping to attrach Francophilic teams and tourists.
Hoisting the Union Jack above his council offices “within a minute of the announcement” in 2005, he unveiled a plan for all things Anglais to generate revenue and publicity from the games by trying to attract athletes, fans and journalists. “We decided to make the Pas de Calais the most active English region in terms of the Olympics,” he told The Times.
He has a point, though. What do you think?
Official or not?
OlympicBritan2012.com is an unofficial London 2012 Olympics Website. We do not claim to be otherwise. We just hope that it is a useful source of information for visitors to the UK in 2012 - both for the London 2012 Olympics and also to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
As has been seen with Beijing, however, where there is money there is fraud - from fake and non-existent tickets to official-looking websites that can skim your credit card before you can say 'overspend', to fake 'official' merchandise.
Through this website, we will tell you where you can Officially buy tickets & merchandise and which websites are Officially Approved by London 2012. All official links can be verified by going to the Official London 2012 Website as well.
Through this website, we will also tell you of any websites that purport to be Official but, in fact have nothing to do with London 2012 and we recommend that you avoid them. This list can be found on our Forum here. Do let us know should you find any others.
As Sergeant Esterhaus would have said: "Let's Be Careful Out There".
Latest Team GB Hopefuls

Identical twins Helen and Carol Galashan are students at Leeds Metropolitan University, and are Britain's leading synchronised diving hopefuls for the 2012 Olympics. The twins' training programme and the Aquatics Centre at the John Charles Centre for Sport in Leeds, where the girls train, are both backed by the Lottery. This means the girls have the best possible training facilities, and the best chance to realise their Olympic dream!
